The Christmas Guest![]() Inspirational poet Helen Steiner Rice wrote many poems and stories, but one of her most famous was entitled "The Christmas Guest," which is the story of a man named Conrad who sees the Lord in many different and unexpected forms one Christmas Day. While waiting for the Lord to show up in all His grandeur, Conrad kindly helped three unfortunate souls who appeared at his door. In the end, the Lord said He was each of the three strangers and that He was honored to be Conrad's guest on that Christmas Day long ago. The kindness to his fellow man that Conrad displayed was, and still is, one of the most fundamental lessons that kids learn about Christmas. And that lesson was recently displayed by MHS sophomore Caroline Kidder. Caroline has been deeply touched by Will Moore and Adam Taylor, two MHS students who are cancer survivors. She was also very impressed by the work that St. Jude Hospital does and decided that she was going to try to, in her own way, make some type of donation in honor of her friends. So she let her hair grow out so she could donate it to "Locks of Love", an organization that makes wigs for young patients. She grew her hair for two years SOLELY to donate it. Once donated, her hair was to be made into a wig that would bring a smile to a youngster somewhere who was battling for his or her life. ![]() ![]() ![]() In addition to her hair, Caroline actively actively supports the Ronald McDonald House in Memphis. She helps collect can tabs for her MYF group at the Methodist Church in Senatobia. The can tabs are sent to the Ronald McDonald House to help offset the cost of house operations. The MYF group has collected several hundred thousand tabs so far, and Caroline has contributed over 30,000 tabs to the group's effort. ![]() As always, MHS strives to congratulate and honor students who go out of their way, and even inconvenience themselves, to do what is proper and right. Like Conrad did years ago, Caroline, along with many other MHS students and organizations, will take time this Christmas to help others - mostly strangers - in small (and sometimes big) ways. To each and every one who do these small acts of kindness we offer a big "tip of the fedora". Merry Christmas students. We are proud of each of you!!! |
